29 OCTOBER 2025

Trust, Traceability, and Certification – Valorising Biological Feedstocks

Final event of the BioReCer project
📅 29 October 2025 | ⏰ 9:00 – 14:45 CEST
📍 Ciudad de la Cultura, Santiago de Compostela, Spain

On 29 October 2025, the European project BioReCer (biorecer.eu) invites representatives from the bio-based industry, research, certification and standardisation bodies, as well as consumer associations and policy makers, to its final event, which will take place at the Ciudad de la Cultura in Santiago de Compostela.

After three years of work, the project comes to its conclusion by presenting results, tools, and recommendations to strengthen trust, traceability, and certification of biological feedstocks.

The BioReCer (Biological Resources Certifications Schemes) project has developed:

  • A methodological framework to assess the sustainability and circularity of biological resources.
  • Circularity indicators and guidelines to integrate them into existing certification schemes.
  • Standardisation Toolkit, una banca dati online a supporto dei professionisti dell’industria bio-based.
  • The BioReCer ICT Tool (BIT), a digital application that allows tracking the entire bio-based value chain, providing real-time data on traceability and sustainability, and enabling company self-assessment in view of certification.

The results have been validated through four case studies on biological waste and residues in key sectors:

  • agriculture (Greece)
  • fisheries (Spain)
  • municipal organic waste and wastewater (Italy)
  • forestry (Sweden)

The event will feature presentations and discussions with project partners and other European experts:

  • Presentation of BioReCer results: sustainability and circularity framework (University of Santiago de Compostela), circularity indicators (Imperial College London), integration into certification schemes (Meo Carbon Solutions).
  • Live Demo of BioReCer ICT Tool (EGM).
  • Round tables:
    1. Sustainability and circularity assessment in the bio-based industry (lessons from BioReCer case studies and related projects).
    2. Future valorisation of biological feedstocks with contributions from EU projects.
