On October 3 and 4, 2024, the Golinelli Foundation in Bologna hosted the fourteenth edition of the International Forum on Industrial Biotechnology and the Bioeconomy (IFIB), one of the most important global events dedicated to the circular bioeconomy. Organized by Cluster Spring and Innovhub-SSI, in collaboration with Federchimica-Assobiotec, the event highlighted the crucial role of the circular bioeconomy for sustainable and competitive economic development.
One of the central themes of the edition was the call for strategic policy interventions to fully exploit the potential of the bioeconomy and make the European Union more competitive and attractive globally. The importance of bringing scientific research excellence to the industrial stage and creating a robust and innovation-friendly European market was also emphasized.
The event was attended by some 40 internationally relevant speakers and 167 participants from 22 nations, testifying to the global scope of the discussion and the growing interest in the field.

A poster session was also held during the event, where dozens of projects were presented. The Paola Mariani Award was given to Mattia Colacicco of the University of Bari Aldo Moro, whose poster received recognition as the best contribution.
In addition, the SPRING Cluster had the opportunity to present some of the European projects in which it participates, including BioINSouth, COPILOT, BioReCer and RIBES.
