IFIB 2025: The leading stakeholders in the circular bioeconomy meet in Turin

The 2025 edition of IFIB – International Forum on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioeconomy concluded with strong participation and high-level engagement. The event took place at the Cavallerizza Reale of the University of Turin, on September 25–26.

The event, a leading European forum for the circular bioeconomy and industrial biotechnology sectors, gathered over 200 participants and more than 50 speakers from all over Europe, joined by a high-level U.S. delegation.

Featured Speakers Included: Novamont, NatureWorks, IFF, Stellantis, TotalEnergies Corbion, Lavazza, SMAT, IP and the European Commission.

Companies, startups, research centers, investors, and institutions shared strategies and innovative solutions for building a more sustainable economy.

Main topics of the 2025 edition

Over the two days, keynote speeches, thematic panels, and B2B sessions explored the challenges and opportunities of the green transition, with a particular focus on:

  • Bio-based chemistry
  • Industrial biotechnology
  • Agro-food systems and sustainable supply chains
  • Next-generation bioenergy and biofuels
  • Tools and policy instruments to address today’s challenges, including:
    • Development of targeted new policies
    • Enhancement of research infrastructure
    • Use of sewage sludge and organic waste to produce innovative bioproducts

Networking and International Collaboration

The B2B sessions organized by Enterprise Europe Network were a great success, facilitating hundreds of meetings between businesses and stakeholders from across Europe and beyond, promoting real collaborations and innovative projects in the field of bioeconomy.

Special space was also dedicated to European Projects, with dedicated info corners and a poster session.

The SPRING award for best poster was presented to the project Microbial Biotechnology Laboratory (M4B-MICRO4BIOTECH) from the University of Bari Aldo Moro.

The next edition of IFIB will take place in Rome in 2026, with new ideas, projects, and connections to build a bio-based future together.
