One-Year Milestone for the European Bioeconomy Clusters Alliance: “From Strategy to Action” in Brussels

Today in Brussels, the European Bioeconomy Cluste Alliance (EBCA) marked a major milestone, exactly one year after its founding, with a strategic meeting focused on turning strategy into action. The event, “From Strategy to Action: The Role of Clusters in the EU Bioeconomy”, was hosted by European Bioplastics at the European Bioplastics Building.

The initiative brought together key stakeholders to discuss how clusters can effectively translate EU bioeconomy strategies into concrete actions — fostering innovation, strengthening collaboration, and driving sustainable growth across Europe.

As a founding member of EBCA, we are proud to take part in this discussion as SPRING – Italian Circular Bioeconomy Cluster, supporting an initiative that highlights the strategic role of clusters in strengthening the European bioeconomy ecosystem.

Highlights from the Morning Session:

  • Insights on the EU Bioeconomy Strategy from the European Commission – DG ENVI (Environment and Climate)
  • High-level panel discussion with stakeholders from DG REGIO, DG GROW (Business), DG ENVI (Environment and Climate), DG RTD (Science, Research and Innovation), and key bioeconomy organizations including Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU), Cefic, EIT Food, European Bioplastics, and Irish Bioeconomy Foundation
  • Open dialogue on how clusters can drive the bioeconomy transition across Europe

The main message delivered to the European Commission was clear:

“If the EU wants the new Bioeconomy Strategy to deliver competitiveness and resilience, it must formally empower those who already implement it: bioeconomy clusters, through EBCA.”

We are proud to be part of this growing alliance and grateful for the opportunity to contribute to shaping the future of Europe’s bioeconomy!

Special thanks to EBCA, European Bioplastics, and all speakers for their valuable insights on moving from policy to practical action.
