The conference “The Circular Bioeconomy: Italian Leadership in a Competitive Europe” organized by SPRING Cluster-Italian Cluster of the Circular Bioeconomy, on the occasion of its annual meeting, was held today-Tuesday, June 24-in Rome at Spazio Europa.
Central theme on which the speakers dialogued: In a Europe aiming for competitiveness and strategic autonomy, the circular bioeconomy is confirmed as a key lever for combining environmental sustainability, industrial innovation and territorial cohesion.
Opening the proceedings was Catia Bastioli, President of SPRING Cluster, to bring the message “It is time to act with vision: we need to leverage projects and technologies of excellence in the territories and connect them to generate a diverse, resilient, competitive and inclusive European ecosystem.”
Fabio Fava of the National Coordination Group on the Bioeconomy, CNBBSV, Presidency of the Council of Ministers , and Laura Campanini of the Intesa Sanpaolo Research Department, presented the numbers and national targets encapsulated in the11th edition of the Bioeconomy in Europe Report and the National Bioeconomy Strategy BIT II, which take a snapshot of a sector that is robust at the European level and strategic for Italy.
The conference is also the setting for the SPRING Media Award, dedicated to Raul Gardini, an award that recognizes the signatures that have best disseminated the issues of circular bioeconomy and environmental sustainability more generally. This year awarded to Laura Bettini of Radio24.
The day concluded with a panel discussion devoted to Italy’s role in building a more competitive Europe through the bioeconomy. Speakers included:

Closing the proceedings was President Bastioli again, with a clear message: “Transforming the bioeconomy into a true European industrial strategy is essential to ensure the well-being, strategic autonomy and resilience of our territories.”
