RuralBioUp

RuralBioUp – Empowering EU Rural Regions to scale-Up and adopt small-scale Bio-based solutions: the transition towards a sustainable, regenerative, inclusive and just circular bioeconomy is a Horizon Europe project that aims to strengthen cooperation between key regional actors and knowledge bearers, enabling them to create an inclusive and long-lasting ecosystem (the RuralBioUp Regional Hubs) to support the integration of bio-based business models in rural areas. Specifically, RuralBioUp will establish 9 regional Hubs (30 stakeholders per Hub) in 6 European countries (IT, CZ, FR, LV, IE, RO), which will co-design and implement 9 Action Plans on 18 value chains in order to improve the bioeconomy and promote rural development at regional and local levels.

The objectives of the project are:

  • Support at least 1,000 innovators through networking events and study visits and foster at least 50 new collaborations (e.g., partnership agreements between companies and/or farmers, funded solutions, etc.) to adopt small-scale bio-based solutions in rural areas;
  • Leverage synergies between existing EU networks (EuBioNet, BioEast, etc.), clusters, and regional organizations and propose different rural business models and new bio-based value chains in relevant regions, through the implementation of a digital tool (the RuralBioUp One-Stop-Shop) that supports regional actors to make evidence-based informed decisions.
